So helped my friend put in a raised bed today. After a little confusion with them trying to reach us on their cell at the same time Rob was calling their house. So we got their answering machine and they got "user is busy". Basically wires crossed. Oh and the cat was asleep on my coat with my cell in it so never heard that go off either.
So by the time I got to their place they were there with two 8 ft long boards on the roof of their car ... guess what I was supposed to help do with my truck.
Anyways got the raised bed built, filled with dirt and humus and mulch and peat moss and all that good stuff and caught their dog twice.
A little tired, a little sore, but good in the fact that we used our bodies to do something productive today.
The good hurt.
Oh and now a little guilty pleasure in chocolate and Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning.

Little Steps
Turned over the dirt in front of the house where some flowers used to be planted. Removed the bulbs, maybe I can sell them, but first I need to check to be sure what kind they are exactly. Also had some - what I call - Ugly Jungle Plants. Have those bulbs too. Maybe someone will like them - just too big and leafy for my tastes for a little suburban home.
Tomorrow I will start turning over more earth in the backyard for the big garden. I figure this gives me a beginning into what I want to do - have my personal garden. Last year's was a flop thanks to a hail storm. Oh there were the potatoes which were awesome but the only other thing I really got out of it was a few squash.
I need to find some time to work on the repairs to the house too. Will try and make up that time when the weather isn't so great outside.

Time to Get Serious
I am resolving to make a blog post a week at least. I want to start recording my thoughts, trials, adventures and triumphs on the way to owning a farm. I admit I really started thinking about this when I started reading Cold Antler Farm. But even before that, when I was young and horse crazy I thought owning a farm or ranch would be awesome.
I worked with horses through high school and college and a little afterwards since college didn't offer what I wanted. They weren't teaching me anything I couldn't just buy a book to learn. I enjoyed working at a horse rental barn and leading trails. I enjoyed working for their son who trains, shows and sells show horses. I enjoyed hands on, real world experience that you can't learn from reading a book.
I look at it this way. You can read all the books you want about riding a bike but until you get on one and learn how to keep your balance you will never really know how to ride a bike.
So here is goes.
I am working on finishing fixing up this house that my husband and I have lived in for ten years. We are going to sell it. We are going to move to some acreage and begin a farm. He still wants to work at his job in town just to make sure there is a secure income and I think that is a fantastic idea. I want to work on the farm.
I want a sustainable farm with mostly animals. I would like a personal garden, and if there is extra I can sell that too. I would like to have a team of horses as my tractor but we will see how that goes.
I have been doing some research into this, but .... sometimes you just have to get on and find your balance.

Watched Over By Machines Of Loving Grace
So I just watched the video and it really got me thinking. Are we all just flesh bags to transport genes and will do whatever we have to do to make sure those genes carry on? Or are we caring loving people with a link to God and at heart altruistic?
Or maybe its a bit like Forest Gump and we are like feathers floating along on the wind of life with just a bit of fate thrown in. There is a box of chocolates, you will eat them, but you never know what you're gonna get?
I can't say for sure.
All I can say for sure is what I think and believe. I will help people who I think deserve, need, and want it. Those who will not help themselves or others when capable probably don't want or need my help. And even if they do, I am not sure I want to help propagate someone not taking care of themselves if they are capable of it.

On Learning
When I was a little brat one of my friends tried to tell me my hair was blond. I had never heard of this word and didn't believe her. I had yellow hair, like the crayon color I use to color it when I drew myself. We argued back and forth for a bit until she gave up (I can be hard headed).
Later that day I asked my mom about the color of my hair and found out it was indeed blond and I learned a little something that day.
Basically it comes down to: Don't be afraid to be wrong. Don't be afraid to learn something from someone else. When in doubt ask for a second opinion.
In the end, sometimes you just have to admit to being blond.

So it begins
Welcome to the blog.
At first I created a domain at Godaddy.com but then realized just registering the domain name did not mean it was hosted. Being tight on funds I am down to a blog.
Not that there is anything wrong with blogs but I was hoping to have a website as well.
For now this will be what I like to call a "brain dump", anything and everything that comes to mind while I try and find a way to make some money off this Internet thing. heh
Good Day
